Saturday Sep 1, 2018 Sunday Sep 30, 2018

Artist's Reception: Sunday, September 16th, 2:00 - 4:00 PM

For the month of September, the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library presents What Lies Before Us: New Paintings by Dan Lukens.

An artist's reception will take place on Sunday, September 16th from 2:00 - 4:00 PM. The reception will coincide with Piermont's Art in the Park festival. All are welcome.

What lies before us…
As Emerson wrote:

"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." What lies before us is what is yet undiscovered. It is what we have looked past in the places and the lives around us. Seeing what we have not seen of the good in the world is, I believe, a path to knowing what is best within us.

"Piermont Reads" Talk presented by Library Trustee, Dr. Cara Stepanian

Sunday Sep 23, 2018, 2 p.m.

Thomas Berger’s 1980 novel Neighbors is a dark social commentary on suburban life, in which reality clashes with perception. Heralded as a suburban classic alongside such giants as Updike (Rabbit, Run) and Yates (Revolutionary Road), this novel whose pages span just 24 hours, take its readers on a wild and warped ride. This talk will examine Berger’s life and his time in Piermont, while placing Neighbors in context of both time and place – evaluating its relevance today and its place in a modern canon of social reflection.
