For the month of June, the Library will present its Annual Student Art Exhibition: Interiors of the Imagination. An Artists' Reception will be held on Sunday, June 3rd, from 3:00 - 4:00 PM. All are welcome.

Throughout the year, the Library offers free visual art classes focusing on a variety of materials and techniques to students in grades 1 - 8 taught by Alexis Starke. This year, the focus is on interiors and projects are inspired by contemporary American artist Ann Toebbe; Belgian Surrealist René Magritte; and contemporary Korean visual artist JeeYoung Lee. Patrons are always delighted to see the creations of our youngest artists.

Children's Summer Reading Program: Libraries Rock!

Be a Rock Star Reader! Join us at the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library this summer from June 25th to July 30th for our summer reading program for children ages 3-12. The theme this year is “Libraries Rock”. We’ll have special programs, crafts, and weekly book check-ins with prizes. Come in on Monday, June 25th or Thursday, June 28th to register. Then drop in weekly on Mondays or Thursdays from 3:30-6 pm to see Miss Nancy to talk about a book and pick up your prize. On Monday, July 30th at 6 pm, we’ll have a family pizza party for everybody in the program.

Check our calendar for special events like Bash the Trash, Mighty Five Field Day, The Life of Mozart presented by the Traveling Lantern Theatre Company, a screening of the movie Rock Dog, and more. Come join the fun!

July Exhibition: Andrew Weatherly: The Art Beyond a Syndrome

For the month of July, the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library presents Andrew Weatherly: The Art Beyond a Syndrome. An Artist's Reception and brief talk will take place on Sunday, July 15th, from 2 - 4 PM. All are welcome.

Andrew Weatherly is a young man with Down Syndrome who has found his voice through art. Insightful, intuitive, sincere, and passionate about his work, Weatherly also has a resolve that has allowed him to overcome many obstacles. Viewing art as a tool for both personal and social growth, Weatherly explores his creativity through painting, photography, and writing; has published two books on his experiences; and regularly gives talks about his experiences as an artist and in life. He has exhibited his work widely on the East Coast. Additional information about this inspiring artist can be found on his website at www.andrewweatherly.com.

The Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library will offer a series of Summer Art Classes for students entering grades 4 and up taught by Alexis Starke. Classes will be held on Tuesdays from July 10th through August 14th from 5:00 - 6:00 PM.

Classes will cover a variety of materials and techniques in drawing, painting, design, sculpture, mixed media, collage, printmaking, and crafts. Inspiration will be taken from the greats of art history, contemporary artists, and our beautiful surroundings in Piermont on the Hudson River. Creativity will be developed in a supportive environment. And we always have fun!

Classes are free and all materials are included. Older clothes and/ or smocks (provided by the library or by students) are recommended. Please arrive to class a couple of minutes early to put on a smock and get settled. Classes are held outside when possible in the Library's gardens and in adjacent parks and open space. Adult Summer Reading, July - August 2018 Libraries Rock

The library's annual Adult Summer Reading Raffle will be held for 8 weeks. Submit an entry form for each book you read over the summer. A winner will be chosen every Friday, July 13th – August 31st. Prizes will include gift certificates, gadgets, books, and more.

The 2018 Summer Reading theme is “Libraries Rock” and what better way to kick it off than by exploring our new streaming music services?
