Exhibition: HOME: New Work by Kathy Baruffi

Thursday Nov 1, 2018 Friday Nov 30, 2018

For the month of November, the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library presents HOME: New Work by Kathy Baruffi.

Artist's Reception, Sunday, November 4th, 2:00 - 4:00 PM. All are welcome!

Baruffi is a longtime Piermonter, having lived in the Village since the early 1980's. The Piermont Library (both locations) has always been a cozy and welcoming place for her. Thus it seems fitting that her first solo exhibition, an exhibition exploring the subject of home, should be at the Library.

Baruffi elaborates on her subject,

"The opportunity to exhibit here has encouraged me to explore a subject that fascinates me: habitation, the places we call home and the things we put in them. I am on the 'outsider' spectrum of art, untrained, driven simply by the pleasure of assembling found materials into a narrative. For this show I am also working on a salute to the late Dr. Francois Vuilleumier, ornithologist, artist and friend. He studied, sketched and noted bird life around the world, from Tierra del Fuego to the Piermont Pier, a place he loved. Thanks to the generosity of his widow, Rebecca Finnell, I will be incorporating some of his beautiful bird drawings and binocular cases into a couple of pieces for the show. Also, thanks to Sally Savage, the doyenne of local photography, I am adapting some of her mid-century photos for a Piermont assemblage."
