For the Month of March, the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library presents Postcards from South Africa: Paintings by Margaret Grace. A reception for the artist will be held on Sunday, March 4th, from 2 - 4 PM.
Piermont artist Margaret Grace will be exhibiting small South African landscape paintings at the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Library in March, 2018. Ms. Grace maintained residence in Cape Town for many years, and produced a group of small paintings, “postcards,” of both intimate landscapes and broad vistas. Her subjects are in the Western Cape, from Cape Town to the Karoo and winelands to the north and west. “I have a great appreciation of the beauty of the Hudson Valley and the Hudson River is central to my life as an artist. But there is an important place in my visual life for Cape Town. The Western Cape of South Africa is lush, arid, harsh and tender all at once. Blue and purple mountains of the Western Cape seem to crack to the surface. The sky is often an intense blue, marked by wild looking clouds shaped by wind blowing from Antarctica. I have been captivated by this place for more than a decade and am pleased to share my visual notes, my “South African Postcards,” with my Piermont neighbors.
