For the month of October, the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library presents Hyesun Jung: Whisper. Jung's work is a unique combination of painting and ceramic influences. She draws on Korean painting techniques, applying 10 - 15 layers of natural pigments on hanji, traditional Korean paper, to achieve depth of color. She then applies kaolin and carves into it with ceramic techniques.
Jung has exhibited extensively in Korea, Texas, and the New York metropolitan area. Jung describes her approach to art as follows, “No two days are the same, but daily routines make us feel like they are. Art plays a role like a bell stimulating our consciousness. Its sound can echo around our prosaic lives and its resonance makes us see our lives in new ways. Beautiful life is with us when we enjoy the unique moment in our life with pausing and listening for the whispers of nature and our inner voice. I hope people have an aha-moment to step aside from their routine and realize how beautiful life is while seeing my works.”
