Summer Art Classes for Kids Entering Grades 3 and up

The Library will offer a series of Summer Art Classes for students entering grades 1 and up taught by Alexis Starke. Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 5:00 - 6:00 PM for students entering grades 3 and up and on Wednesdays for students entering grades 1 - 4. The first class will be held on Tuesday, July 11th and classes will continue through mid August. Classes will cover a variety of materials and techniques in drawing, painting, design, sculpture, mixed media, collage, printmaking, and crafts. Inspiration will be taken from the greats of art history, contemporary artists, and our beautiful surroundings in Piermont on the Hudson River. Classes are free and all materials are included. Older clothes and/ or smocks (provided by the library or by students) are recommended. Classes are held outside when possible in the Library's gardens and in adjacent parks and open space. Creative Writing Workshop: Memoir, Fiction, Poetry,

Thursdays, 4-6 p.m., July 13 - August 31.

Lisa Rhodes-Ryabchich will teach a memoir, fiction, and poetry writing workshop in the conference room of the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library (located at 25 Flywheel Park West, Piermont, NY) this summer.

The first hour will be about the craft of memoir, fiction and poetry. We will look at a variety of literature, and poetry and analyze how it works to create an interesting piece of writing. The nuts and bolts of each genre will be explored. Then we will spend the 2nd hour writing with prompts and critique informally each person’s in-class writing by providing constructive ideas to improve their writing. There will be only positive feedback and each student should bring a notebook.

No experience is required and all are welcome.

Lisa Rhodes-Ryabchich has an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College and was a creative writing instructor at Westchester Community College and was an Adjunct Professor of English at Ramapo College in Mahwah, N.J.

Free music education for young children and parents/caregivers, held in the Henderson Children's Room of the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library. Presented by Moon River Music Together with Flo Labaze, the class will explore how the early childhood program of Music Together® teaches music through play.

Young children are given the opportunity to develop basic competence in music by providing them with a rich musical experience in a relaxed and playful environment.

Catherine Rubin, Director of Moon River Mother and Child, believes that every child is musical and that each child needs a stimulating, supportive music environment to enjoy the wonderful human capacity for music-making.
