Artist's Reception: Sunday, February 4th, 2 - 4 PM

For the month of February, the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library presents Kathy Kearney: Reflections. There will be a reception for the artist on Sunday, February 4th, from 2 - 4 PM. All are welcome.

Kearney describes her work, "I have been studying privately with artist Jackie Shatz for about 15 years. During that time I have explored many mediums, including clay sculpture and acrylic and oil painting. I have worked both abstractly and figuratively. Recently I have been using family photographs, as well as the photographs of such well known photographers as WeeGee and Dorothea Lange as my sources. My intent is not to copy but to use them as models for an imaginative and painterly approach. I am interested in the way the setting, or landscape works compositionally with the expressive and gestural qualities of the figures. I try to use color, not literally, but in a visually intuitive way. My life work as a therapist contributes to the choice, insight and content of the these figurative works. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm getting there."

Music Classes for Children

Tuesday Feb 20, 2018, 11:45 a.m.

Monthly: meets 3rd Tuesday of each month.

Free music education for young children and parents/caregivers, held in the Henderson Children's Room of the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library. Presented by Moon River Music Together with Flo Labaze, the class will explore how the early childhood program of Music Together® teaches music through play.

Young children are given the opportunity to develop basic competence in music by providing them with a rich musical experience in a relaxed and playful environment.

Catherine Rubin, Director of Moon River Mother and Child, believes that every child is musical and that each child needs a stimulating, supportive music environment to enjoy the wonderful human capacity for music-making.

WIP it up Wednesdays: Works-in-Progress Craft Club

Wednesday Feb 21, 2018, noon 1 p.m.

Every Wednesday until February 28th.

An open invitation to crafters:

We all have those craft projects sitting unfinished in a tote or a drawer, on a shelf or a table. We start with the best intentions and tons of enthusiasm, then put our hobby on hold when other priorities take over, or we hit a roadblock creatively.

Setting aside time, putting it on the calendar, and committing can be all it takes to get you back to work. That’s where “WIP it up Wednesday” comes in. It is simply a time to set aside for your projects, and to come together with other crafters who can offer input and encouragement.

Come to the library with that project you’ve been meaning to get back to, whether you’re knitting your first sweater or still putting together your teenager’s “baby” scrapbook, and whip it up with us. No judgments, just fun, social time to work on your unfinished projects with other crafters.

No registration required. Just drop in and join us.
