Inspired in part by our June exhibit/program "Home Grown", library staff decided to experiment with some vegetables planted among shrubs and grasses in our backyard.
Here you see a sample of what we were able to grow in very limited space with a modicum of effort. With the exception of the tomatoes, everything was grown from seed. It's really fun and we would encourage you to give it a try! You can even use pots on the terrace for some of these plants - although that probably wouldn't work too well with the wild and crazy squash!
Thanks to garden designer Mary Ellen LeWarn for her advice and able assistance.
