The Piermont Library board members, personnel, and friends mourn the death at age 100 of distinguished former trustee, S. Hazard Gillespie.
When, after fifteen years of service, Hazard stepped down from the Library Board in December 2008, he was 98. While on the Board, he rarely missed a meeting and contributed to all board activities with insight, humor, and enthusiasm. His most significant contribution to the library, however, was to help create and shepherd through the New York State Legislature, the bill that established the Piermont Library District and was crucial to financing the new library building.
