Today, on the twentieth anniversary, we remember.
We remember the thousands of brave rescue workers and civilians who perished as a result of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. We remember those who selflessly gave their lives while desperately trying to save the lives of others. They are heroes who will not be forgotten.
We remember beloved fallen firefighter Dennis P. McHugh (Engine 22 Ladder 13) for whom our library is named. The generosity of the Dennis P. McHugh Foundation enabled the construction of the Library’s beautiful building overlooking Flywheel Park and the Hudson River, a symbol of the collective spirit and positive power of community strength to overcome adversity. His memory and legacy are with us always.
the American spirit will prevail over this tragedy
