We remember the thousands of brave rescue workers and civilians who perished as a result of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. We remember those who selflessly gave their lives while desperately trying to save the lives of others. They are heroes who will not be forgotten.
We remember beloved fallen firefighter Dennis P. McHugh (Engine 22 Ladder 13) for whom our library is named. The generosity of the Dennis P. McHugh Foundation enabled the construction of the Library’s beautiful building overlooking Flywheel Park and the Hudson River, a symbol of the collective spirit and positive power of community strength to overcome adversity. His memory and legacy are with us always.
the American spirit will prevail over this tragedy

You are invited to attend the opening reception of Andrew Dodge: A Retrospective on Sunday, September 10th from 3 – 5pm at the Dennis P McHugh Piermont Public Library. The work will be on display throughout the month of September.
“Passionate mark-making;” “full of energy and creative expression;” “Free and bold;” and “impressive powers of observation.” These are just some of the phrases that Andrew Dodge’s teachers and visual arts mentors use to describe his work.
Andrew was born in 1993 and at the age of three diagnosed with Profound Autism. Hyperacusis makes him sensitive to certain sounds, loud noises, and different pitches. He also has apraxia of speech, which makes verbal communication difficult.
Since the age of three, art has become Andrew’s primary form of expression,& communication. Primarily self-taught in his early years, he has been under the guidance of several local artists including Lauren Rudolph, Alice Mizrachi and Bill Batson.
The terms Outsider Art and Art Brut describe the passionate energy of Andrew’s work. Art Brut was coined by French painter Jean Dubufett, meaning Raw Art. A Retrospective.
Retrospective offers a compilation of Andrew’s work to date and demonstrates the power and sophistication of this prolific neurodivergent artist.
Near the corner of Ash and Piermont Avenue lies a recently opened gem of a store. You may have walked by and noticed the warm, autumnal decorations that playfully light up the dark, wood-framed exterior. The next time you walk by, step inside and experience something magical and unique. The Coven’s Cupboard is a bright addition to our rivertown community. When you enter the store, head to the back of the shop, where you’ll see the large cupboard — a nod to the store’s name. As your hand reaches into the cupboard to pick up the “love intention” candle and bring it closer to your nose, all of a sudden, the beautiful aroma awakens your senses and draws you closer to what this store is all about.
The Coven’s Cupboard is a metaphysical shop filled with a wide range of items — from scented candles to bath and body products, crystals, handmade jewelry, incense, books, tarot and oracle decks, herbal teas and mugs, smudge bundles, wind chimes, and much much more. The small store is packed from top to bottom with numerous treasures and gifts for family and friends. But as you allow your eyes to flow from one thing to another, you’ll start to realize that they are connected. For example, the Evil Eye that adorns the side of the mugs can also be found decorating the delicate bracelets nearby, all of which offer protection to the wearer, warding off any negative or harmful energy. In fact, the underlying theme of the store is that every item has been carefully chosen to benefit one’s mind, body, and spirit.
But what the customer who buys the product may not realize is that each object has a story of its own. The curated items come from makers near and far — local and international, ethically sourced and fair trade certified, all from small businesses, and many of them handmade by women. For example, the Wayuu bags are hand-crocheted, one-of-a-kind medicine bags that are creations of prayer and art offered by the men and women of the Wayuu tribe in Colombia. The essential oil roll-ons are handcrafted by the women of Thistle Farms — a nonprofit organization in Nashville dedicated to helping women survivors recover and heal from prostitution, trafficking, and addiction. These are just two of the many stories behind all the items in the store. Each one comes from a unique background, but they are all made with love, care, and hope, which get passed on to the new owner.
Even the placement of all the products has been intentionally designed to provide you with a beautiful experience as you walk around the store — one that makes you feel good. We invite you to come inside this magical place, learn the stories behind these intentionally chosen treasures, and experience the positive energy that it generates within yourself.
