Virtual Art Show of the Month: Laurie Peek: In Lieu of Flowers
Our Virtual Art Show for October is Laurie Peek: In Lieu of Flowers. Please visit our website throughout October to view this beautiful exhibition https://www.piermontlibrary.org/artist-of-the-month/
From the Artist…..This photographic series, In Lieu of Flowers, is in memory of my son Jackson R. Turner, who drowned in Tulum, Mexico in July 2020. Because of covid, there was no funeral, only his shipped cremains. It is also for my mother, my grandmothers, teachers and friends whose funerals I could not attend… And it’s for all those who’ve experienced a similar loss. In my son’s case, as many do, I asked well-wishers to donate to a cause in lieu of sending flowers.
These images are 10.5” x 14” archival, pigment, photographic prints on vellum with hand-painted gold and silver metallic gilding on the backs. The flowers are mostly from my garden.
Signed, Editioned (5) Prints are $750

Art Classes for Grades 7 – 12
Join us for a fun, relaxing, and creative series of art classes taught by Alexis Starke! We will explore a range of materials and techniques and draw inspiration from a variety of sources from contemporary artists, art history, science, and the natural world. For our first project we will create imaginary landscapes inspired by contemporary American artist Shara Hughes. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Hughes lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She earned a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and later attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She describes her lush, vibrantly chromatic images of hills, rivers, trees and shorelines, often framed by abstract patterning, as “invented landscapes. All materials are provided. Please email astarke@piermontlibrary.org with any questions. Registration through our website events page.
Happy 125th Birthday, Piermont Library!
Join us from 12pm-2pm, on Sunday, September 26th, outside the library for a celebration of our 125th birthday! Bring a picnic to enjoy and listen to some live music! Birthday cake will be served.
This event is also a celebration of our our oral history project, Piermont Remembers, and we hope you will take some time that day and in the future to enjoy some of the many personal stories of Piermont community members that we have archived.
Adult Book Discussion Group
Join us for our lively Adult Book Discussion Group on Wednesday, September 22nd from 3:00 – 4:00 pm. We had to postpone our August meeting, so for September, we are reading the 1943 classic, A tree Grows in Brooklyn, by Betty Smith. We meet outside at the gazebo by the river. Please register in case of bad weather so we can send you the Zoom link. New members are always welcome! Details and registration on our events page.
