For the month of February, the Library presents, Shakira Chin: Waters Along the LoHud. A reception for the artist will be held on Sunday, February 9th, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. All are welcome!
Introducing Artist Shakira ChinAs a fine art oil painter, Shakira specializes in sunrises/ sunsets, waterscapes, and silhouettes- it is hard not to find inspiration from the Lower Hudson Valley…. LoHud.
Shakira fell in Love with Rockland County and the Wonderful Community of Nyack years ago, elated by its proximitiy to numerous parks, outdoor activities, incredible sunrises and sunsets, and many bodies of water. These inspire, enable, and allow her to exemplify her mission through oil paint renditions, to capture the glorious “Indelible Moments in Time” Mother Nature offers us.
Intertwining her love of getting her hands dirty with her art, she uses reclaimed wood, upon request, to assemble the perfect frame for each of her Works of Art.
Shakira is involved in many art advocacy groups, volunteers widely, and donates part proceeds to www.projectaware.org, a Marine Conservation Community.

Create and Sip: Library Style
Join us for “Create and Sip: Library Style” on Thursday, October 17th! Drop in anytime between 6 and 8 pm. We will take inspiration from Mexican folk artists including Alfonso Castillo (pictured here) and the Linares Family who use Día de Muertos (The Day of the Dead) as a theme in their work. We’ll be painting the Library windows (!) as well as creating a take-home project. Enjoy wine and some delicious homemade Mexican treats. This event will coincide with Piermont’s Late Night Shopping event. Please register through our online events calendar or call us at 359-4595.
Never forget.
We remember beloved fallen firefighter Dennis P. McHugh (Engine 22 Ladder 13), who was among the more than 2,800 brave rescue workers and civilians who perished as a result of the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Artist’s Statement from Ralph Olsen
“Creativity is not a hobby, it’s a way of life.”
As a retired architect, I had to find an outlet for my creative “juices.” I tried painting on driftwood, photography, collage, and, most recently, assemblage. As an inveterate saver of all things, I find assemblage to be the ideal medium for me. I hope my artistic endeavors convey my love of life.
