Jorli Peña: Be the Moon
For the month of August, the Library presents Jorli Peña: Be the Moon. An opening reception for the artist will take place on Sunday, August 4th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. All are welcome!
Jorli is a Piermont-based artist and writer who uses digital tools to manipulate and expand upon hand-drawn sketches. This whimsical series explores the idea of drawing in the world you want to create, like the moon draws in the tides. As part of the opening reception, there will be a kid- and adult-friendly interactive demo area where people can practice creating digital art from their own handwriting. To learn more about Jorli’s work or to shop her prints, visit bethemoon.com.

Mary Mclean-Hely: Habitats
For the month of July, the Library presents Mary Mclean-Hely: Habitats. An opening reception for the artist will take place on Sunday, July 14th, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. All are welcome.
Mclean-Hely’s exhibition focuses on animals both wild and tame- many from a trip to Africa and others, of the domestic variety, from around New York state— dogs, chickens, cows, a guinea pig. The pieces are all created with watercolor pencil and picture the animals in their natural habitats. Several show a mother with her young and as Mclean-Hely states, “I try to capture animals being animals.”
Flashback Fridays Concert Series: Reflections Jazz & Swing Orchestra
Friday, June 14th, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Reflections Jazz & Swing Orchestra was formed by its present leader, Paul Bastone, in the Spring of 1999. It is a traditional 18 piece big band with vocalist, based in Rockland County, that plays a wide variety of popular music including hits of the 30’s and 40’s. All of the members are volunteers and are rewarded by the good feeling they get from performing for diverse audiences and the knowledge that they are helping to preserve the Big Band sound.
Their dedication is further bolstered by the applause and verbal appreciation they receive from their audiences. The band has performed concerts sponsored by the Pearl River Public Library, Town of Haverstraw Summer Concert Series, the Nanuet Public Library, Suffern Recreation Dept., Helen Hayes Rehabilitation Hospital, Village of Greenwood Lake, Village of Montebello, Meals On Wheels, Sunrise Assisted Living, Congregation Shomrei Emunah, Tuxedo Performing Arts Group, Rockland Family Shelter, Friedwald House and Allendale Community For Mature Living.
This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by ArtsWestchester
